Antique Asian Curio Cabinet(Appraisal Included)

We love to get unique items and this Asian Curio Cabinet does not disappoint.  It is commonly known as a shodana or etagere dating from the Meiji period(late 19th to early 20th century).  The design is asymmetric featuring multi level open shelving alongside various hinged and sliding doors.  Come in person to view the intricate carvings depicting relief carvings of traditional landscape scenes, figures and foliage.  It is built with complex joinery and open framework characteristic of fine East Asian collectors' display furniture from the period.  The wood is a dark stained rosewood and teak.

The owner provided and appraisal from 1987 of $3500 and there is additional paperwork inquiring in 2021 the value.  The American Society of Appraisers responded stating that they are seeing pieces such as this advertised between $3800-4000.
